Arginice first came into the program, E.L.I.T.E., in the latter part of 2017 and was very frustrated. Arginice, a single mother to a little girl, was living with her boyfriend, had no driver’s license or transportation and was working part time at Home Depot making minimum wage.
After much career exploration, career guidance and counseling, Arginice was placed in a paid Work Experience site as an Administrative Assistant intern. She thrived while she was in the Work Experience program. She took several Information Technology (IT) courses on the Middlesex County Online Learning Platform, Skillup Middlesex, and earned various IT related certifications.
While in the E.L.I.T.E. Youth Program, she was also able to obtain her driver’s license and enroll in the local Community College. She had now solidified what field/career path she wanted to pursue(Social Work). Upon completion of her Work Experience, she was assisted with updating her resume and was referred to a job opening at the Hackensack Meridian Health JFK Rehabilitation Center in Edison where she was hired as a Vocational Rehabilitation Assistant. She is working full time at the Rehabilitation Center and is also enrolled in the local Community College as a part time student pursuing her Associates Degree in Social Work.
